Dongfeng A60 Max Dongfeng A60 Max (Aeolus Yixuan Max)

2026-09-20 13:00:18

The Dongfeng A60 Max (marketed overseas as the Dongfeng A60 Max or Shine Max, and known domestically in China as the Dongfeng Aeolus Yixuan MAX) is the first wide-body D-segment/C-segment sports sedan built on Dongfeng Motor Corporation's all-new DSMA (Dongfeng Superior Modular Architecture) platform. Serving as the flagship benchmark of the Dongfeng Aeolus "Yixuan Family", the model has been rebranded as the "A60 Max" in key export markets (notably the Middle East, CIS, and Latin America). This move is aimed at succeeding and thoroughly redefining the conservative family-car persona of the legacy A60, transforming it into a "track-inspired wide-body sedan" that combines a low-slung wide stance, a high-tech intelligent cockpit, and potent Mach Power performance.

Model Overview

Positioned as an urban sports wide-body sedan, the Dongfeng A60 Max leverages an aggressive "value-for-money, punch-above-its-weight" strategy in international markets. Its standout highlights include a class-leading 1,870 mm body width, a 1.5-litre Mach Power turbo engine pushing out 190 PS, as well as an independent rear multi-link suspension setup and premium amenities (such as front-seat massage functions and an 11-speaker Jamo sound system)—features seldom seen on rival non-national C-segment sedans in this price bracket (such as the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra). The vehicle primarily caters to urban middle-class buyers, young families, and performance-minded enthusiasts looking for generous cabin room alongside punchy performance and rich digital equipment.

Development History

The emergence and rebranding of the A60 Max signify a strategic transformation for Dongfeng passenger vehicles, shifting from "joint-venture technical reliance" to "in-house modular architecture development":

Architecture Evolution (2021–2022): Debuting in China in 2021 under the "Yixuan MAX" moniker as the first model built on the DSMA architecture, the car broke free from the compact segment constraints of its predecessor's PSA-derived platform.

Global Renaming and Export Strategy (2023–2025): To streamline its global product portfolio, Dongfeng badged the model as the Dongfeng A60 Max for international markets, introducing it across the Middle East (including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Jordan), Iran, and South America. Thanks to its commanding road presence and wide proportions, the car garnered immediate traction upon launch in markets like Saudi Arabia, establishing itself as a standout, value-packed petrol sports sedan in the SAR 50,000 to SAR 60,000 price segment.

2026 Model Year Tech Upgrades and Global Footprint (2026 to Present): For the 2026 model year, export variants of the A60 Max received dedicated localisation upgrades tailored to harsh tropical climates and varied road conditions across the Middle East and Southeast Asia. These enhancements include upgraded engine thermal management and air-conditioning cooling performance for extreme ambient heat, alongside the wider standardisation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). Concurrently, as Dongfeng expands its right-hand-drive (RHD) and dual-track new energy strategy, the A60 Max Mach MHD Hybrid (HEV) variant serves as the spearhead for Dongfeng's green transition, accelerating rollouts into stricter emissions markets worldwide.

Market Performance

The Dongfeng A60 Max has carved out a unique "high-performance wide-body" niche within the global family sedan arena. In its home market of China, its domestic sibling, the Yixuan MAX, joins the GAC Trumpchi Empow and Chery Arrizo 8 in forming a dominant triumvirate of Chinese A+-segment sports sedans. Overseas, particularly in core Middle Eastern markets like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, the A60 Max has become the sales cornerstone of Dongfeng's ICE lineup. Local buyers have widely praised its factory-fitted sonic digital grille, quad exhaust garnish, and luxury touches like ventilated and massaging seats, successfully challenging the traditional stronghold of established Japanese and Korean rivals in the family sedan segment.

Core Technologies

In terms of exterior dimensions, the A60 Max features a classic long-wheelbase, wide-body sedan profile, measuring 4,797 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width, and 1,475 mm in height, riding on an expansive 2,770 mm wheelbase. The 1,870 mm width delivers a planted, low visual centre of gravity while unlocking generous D-segment-rivaling shoulder room inside the cabin.

Key powertrain and chassis specifications are detailed below:

Mach Power Powertrains (Front-Wheel Drive / FWD):

1.5T Petrol Variant (Core Export Model): Powered by Dongfeng's proprietary Mach Power 1.5-litre inline-four turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine (C15TDR). It delivers a maximum output of 140 kW (approx. 190 PS) and a peak torque of 300 Nm, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT). Official combined fuel consumption is rated at just 6.2 L/100 km, offering eager mid-range acceleration alongside impressive cruising efficiency on highways.

1.5T MHD Hybrid Variant (MHD Hybrid): Combines a dedicated 1.5T hybrid engine with Dongfeng's in-house HD120 dual-motor hybrid electric drive unit. Generating a total system output of 151 kW (approx. 205 PS), the hybrid setup delivers the immediate torque and whisper-quiet refinement of an EV off the line, achieving a combined WLTC fuel consumption figure as low as 4.3 L/100 km.

Chassis and Suspension Setup:

Stepping up from the rear torsion beam of the entry-level Yixuan, the A60 Max is equipped with an independent front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension setup. Underpinned by the DSMA platform, the chassis delivers composed roll control through high-speed cornering, confident lane-change stability, and a significantly more refined ride quality over uneven surfaces for rear passengers.

The cabin adopts a "tech-luxe" aesthetic, featuring a 12.3-inch full digital LCD instrument cluster alongside a 10.25-inch driver-angled floating infotainment touchscreen running Dongfeng's Windlink smart operating system (export variants offer comprehensive support for MirrorLink smartphone integration, Bluetooth connectivity, and multi-language voice commands).

When it comes to luxury and safety kit, the A60 Max punches well above its class: top-spec variants feature an 8-point pneumatic driver's seat with 24 massage modes, ventilated seats, and 4-way electric lumbar adjustment, paired with a bespoke 11-speaker Jamo surround sound system. On the active safety front, the vehicle incorporates 5 ultra-HD cameras, 5 millimetre-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to deliver a robust Level 2+ ADAS suite (including Door Opening Warning/DOW, Rear Cross Traffic Alert/RCTA, and a 540° HD transparent chassis panoramic camera). Combined with a star-rated safety body constructed with 70% high-strength steel, the A60 Max guarantees solid structural protection and driving confidence.

Future Plans

As Dongfeng Motor accelerates its global strategic push, upcoming plans for the A60 Max will centre on "electrification architecture upgrades" and "market segment expansion". Over the next two years, Dongfeng plans to deploy its next-generation Mach PHREV (supporting PHEV, BEV, and REEV modes) technology across the model range, introducing a plug-in hybrid A60 Max to comply with increasingly stringent carbon emissions and tax regulations globally. Concurrently, leveraging Dongfeng's expanding network of overseas knockdown (KD) assembly facilities and dealer channels, the A60 Max will team up with SUV stablemates such as the Dongfeng Mage and Aeolus L7 to mount an aggressive, dual-track ICE and hybrid offensive worldwide.
